Waveland Civic Association
The Waveland Civic Association was formed in 1963, born from a simple idea shared among friends gathered at a local lounge on Coleman Avenue. A group of local men from Waveland, New Orleans, and surrounding communities came together with a shared love for tradition, camaraderie, and the desire to bring something special to their town—an idea that would soon grow into a beloved celebration.
That vision came to life in 1964 with the very first St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Waveland. From the beginning, it was about more than just a parade—it was about community, laughter, and creating memories that would last for generations. The inaugural parade was proudly led by Grand Marshal Mr. Joe Griffins, alongside Colleen Miss Terri Gandee, setting the tone for the spirit and heart that continue to define the celebration today.
What started as a small gathering of friends has grown into a cherished tradition, honoring the past while bringing families and neighbors together year after year in true Waveland style.
